The part decides how long the repair lasts. Here is what we fit, and what the cheap version costs you later.
Torsion Springs
The torsion spring above the door carries almost all of its weight. It decides whether the door lifts smoothly for years or fails on the coldest morning of the winter.
We install high-cycle powder-coated torsion springs rated for tens of thousands of open and close cycles. The coating keeps moisture off the steel, so the spring holds its tension instead of rusting from the inside out.
Budget shops fit the cheapest uncoated builder-grade spring that fits the shaft. Bare steel starts surface rusting within a season, the coils bind against each other, and the spring snaps years earlier than it should.
Extension Springs
Lighter and older doors run on extension springs mounted along both horizontal tracks. They stretch on every single cycle, so build quality shows up fast.
We use double-hoop end extension springs built for roughly thirty thousand cycles, with a safety containment cable run through the center of every spring.
The common budget part is a single loop-end spring with no containment cable. The loop is the weak point, and when it lets go the spring can whip across the garage.
Lift Cables
Lift cables tie the bottom of the door to the drums at the top. A frayed cable is the usual reason a door goes crooked and jams in the opening.
We fit galvanized aircraft-grade lift cables sized to the actual weight of the door, with clean swaged ends that seat properly in the drum groove.
Cheap cables use thinner strand counts and light plating. They stretch, birdcage at the drum, and start shedding wire strands long before the door itself is worn out.
Cable Drums
The drums sit at each end of the torsion shaft and wind the cables as the door rises. Their machining is what keeps both sides of the door level.
We install cast aluminum drums machined for the specific door height, so the cable tracks in a clean groove and both sides lift at exactly the same rate.
Budget stamped drums have rough grooves and set screws that back out. The cable jumps its groove, one side lags behind the other, and the door racks in the opening.
Rollers
Rollers are the small wheels that carry the door through the track. They are the single biggest reason one garage door is quiet and another one shakes the whole house.
We install sealed nylon rollers on long stems with shielded ball bearings. Nylon runs quiet against the steel track and the seal keeps grit out of the bearing.
Builder-grade doors ship with open steel rollers on short stems. The exposed bearings pack with dust, the wheels flat-spot, and the door grinds on every cycle.
Doing It This Way Since 2016.
Mainspring techs arrive with the springs, cables, and openers on the truck to finish in one visit, quote the flat price before the wrench comes out, and tune every door they touch to run quiet. The brand feels like a well-oiled machine shop: precise, unhurried, guaranteed.
Named for the spring that powers a watch - and the springs that carry your door's entire weight.
