Most mornings start the same way: you load the truck, check the stock, and head out to a house where something isn’t working right. By the time you leave, it is. That’s the job. No two doors are identical, no two customers are in the same situation, and the satisfaction of a door that opens clean and quiet at the end of a call is something you either understand or you don’t. If you do, keep reading.

At Mainspring Garage Door Co., we’ve been doing this work since 1984 – over 42 years of showing up, finishing the job in a single visit when we can, and standing behind everything we touch. The name comes from the spring that carries a door’s entire weight, and from the mainspring inside a watch that makes everything else move. That’s what our technicians are. The part that moves everything.

We run on the K.E.Y.S. values code: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. Those aren’t wall art. They’re how we train, how we evaluate, and how we decide whether a job is finished or just close enough. If “close enough” bothers you the same way it bothers us, there’s a place for you here.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Garage Door Technician – Someone who can diagnose a mechanical problem without drama, communicate the fix plainly to a homeowner, and leave the driveway cleaner than they found it.
  • Apprentice Technician – Someone new to the trade who is serious about learning it properly, not just picking it up as they go.
  • Installer – Someone who reads instructions once, measures twice, and doesn’t need to be told twice that a door hung wrong is a door that comes back.
  • Opener Specialist – Someone comfortable with LiftMaster, Genie, Chamberlain, Craftsman, and similar systems, who can troubleshoot both the hardware and the logic behind it.
  • Dispatcher / Service Coordinator – Someone who stays calm when three calls come in at once, keeps techs and customers on the same page, and treats a homeowner’s urgency with respect rather than indifference.
  • Customer Service Representative – Someone who picks up the phone like they mean it, answers questions straight, and understands that the person calling at 9 p.m. isn’t bothering anyone – they’re counting on us.

What We Offer

Real Training and a Clear Path Forward

Apprentices at Mainspring are trained as journeymen – not just shown where the tools are and told to shadow someone for a week. The K.E.Y.S. code is the curriculum: you learn to do the job right before you do it fast. From apprentice to lead technician, the path exists and people walk it. We’d rather promote from inside than hire from outside, and that’s not a talking point – it’s how we’ve operated since 1984.

Work You Can Be Proud Of

A lot of trades companies promise quality and deliver whatever fits the schedule. Mainspring’s 90-Day Done Right Promise means every technician knows that if the work isn’t right, we come back – no charge, no argument, in writing on every job. That kind of accountability keeps standards high. It also means you don’t have to carry the awkward feeling of leaving a job you weren’t sure about. When we’re done, it’s done right.

Local Crew, National Backing

You work with a local team that knows the neighborhoods, knows the regulars, and answers to people it will see again at the hardware store. Behind that is a national network across 35 states – parts, systems, training resources, and the kind of institutional knowledge that comes from 42 years in the trade. You get the community feel of a local shop and the stability of a brand that’s been around long enough to know what it’s doing.

Steady, Year-Round Demand

Garage doors don’t stop breaking because the economy gets uncomfortable. Springs fail, cables fray, openers lose sync, and none of it waits for a convenient time. That consistent demand means consistent work for the people who do it. We’re not a seasonal operation chasing a boom – we’re a company that’s been answering the phone around the clock for decades, and we expect to be doing it for decades more.

No Experience? Read This.

If you’ve spent time doing HVAC, plumbing, auto mechanics, carpentry, or any work that required reading a situation with your hands and your head, more transfers than you’d think. Garage door work is mechanical and electrical, methodical and physical. The willingness to learn the right way matters more than knowing the right way already.

In your first months, you ride with an experienced technician. You watch, you ask questions, and you handle progressively more of the job as your competence earns it. We don’t hand anyone a truck and a parts list on day one. Springs operate under serious tension – high enough to cause real injury if handled incorrectly – and we train to that reality from the start. By the time you’re running solo calls, you’ll know why every step in the process exists.

A video tutorial is not the same as training. We know that, and we’ll teach you accordingly.
