Franchisee Stories - Mainspring Garage Door Co.

Franchisee Success Stories

The owners who do well here aren’t looking for a side hustle. They’re people who’ve managed crews, run their own shops, or spent years in corporate roles wondering where the actual work went. They want something they can stand in front of. Something with a name that means something when they say it.

Meet Our Owners

Farah H. - Columbus, Ohio

Farah spent fourteen years in logistics for a regional trucking company, managing dispatch and driver schedules across three states. She knew how to move parts and people, but she was tired of moving them for someone else’s balance sheet. A cousin in Indianapolis mentioned he’d bought a Mainspring franchise and finally slept through the night. Farah drove down, rode with him for two days, and watched a technician replace a torsion spring in a Grandview Heights garage in forty minutes, door tested, customer signed, truck stocked for the next one. “No callbacks,” her cousin said. “That’s the part that got me.”

She opened Columbus in 2019. Her first winter, a polar vortex dropped temperatures to minus fifteen and her phone rang for three days straight. She had springs on the trucks, her techs were trained as journeymen under the K.E.Y.S. code, and they finished every job in one visit. Now she sponsors the Franklin County Fair tractor pull and hires kids from the South Side vocational program. “I wanted a business where ‘we stand behind it’ wasn’t marketing,” she says. “Here, it’s stamped on the invoice.”

Raj S. - Austin, Texas

Raj ran a small HVAC company in Round Rock for eight years, sold it, and planned to retire. Within six months he was fixing neighbors’ garage doors for free, just to have something to do with his hands. His wife found the Mainspring franchise listing and pointed out that he was already doing the work without the systems. He called the sales line, asked hard questions about parts sourcing and technician retention, and liked that nobody rushed him.

What convinced him was the 90-Day Done Right Promise. In HVAC, he’d eaten thousands in callbacks that customers disputed. Mainspring puts the guarantee in writing on every job: not right, we come back, no paperwork, no arguing. “I don’t have to be the bad guy anymore,” Raj says. His Austin trucks carry Clopay and Amarr inventory, LiftMaster and Genie openers, and enough torsion springs to handle the Hill Country’s humidity-swollen doors. He lives in Cedar Park, his lead tech lives in Pflugerville, and they both make it to their kids’ soccer games. “That’s the square deal I was looking for,” he says. “Done right, and we’ll be there when we say.”

Allen W. - Greenville, South Carolina

Allen was a plant manager for a automotive supplier in Spartanburg until the 2019 restructuring. At fifty-three, he had a mortgage, a daughter in nursing school, and no interest in starting over at half his salary. He’d fixed his own garage door twice, badly, and still remembered the spring snapping and the dent it put in his truck. When he found Mainspring, the name itself hooked him. “A mainspring carries the whole weight,” he says. “That’s either engineered right or it’s not. There’s no faking it.”

He opened Greenville in 2020, right as homeowners started spending more on their houses than their vacations. His Upstate market has older homes, heavy wooden doors, and clay soil that shifts concrete pads. His techs know to check the header and the hinges, not just the opener. Allen sponsors the Greer High School baseball team and the sanctuary roof at his church. “Keystone companies act like they’ll be here in thirty years,” he says. “Because we will be. I answer my own phone some nights. Live person, no voicemail. That’s how you build it.”

Sanjay M. - Phoenix, Arizona

Sanjay came to Mainspring from a very different world. He’d spent twelve years in software sales, remote since 2015, managing accounts he never met in person. The money was good. The work felt like nothing. In 2021, his father’s garage door failed in a Scottsdale summer, the opener overheated, and three companies no-showed before one finally arrived, unprepared, and quoted double what he’d expected. Sanjay started researching.

He found Mainspring’s flat-price model, no surprises on the bill, and the promise that techs arrive with springs, cables, and openers already on the truck. He liked the K.E.Y.S. values code, especially “Your home first” - the idea that you work in someone’s house the way you’d work in your mother’s. His Phoenix operation opened in 2022, serving Paradise Valley, Arcadia, and the older ranch neighborhoods where aluminum doors bake in hundred-ten-degree heat and thermal expansion kills rollers. Sanjay’s techs are trained to spot sun-damaged weatherstripping and misaligned safety sensors that desert dust settles into. He still uses his sales background, but now he’s selling something he can see. “The 400th job gets the care of the first,” he says. “That’s not a slogan. I watch it happen.”
